Yes, therapy, therapy, therapy...
What types of therapy you ask? Well, let me tell you... We have Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), Speech Therapy as well as visits with a Nutritionist. Is that enough therapists for one person??? :)
To back track just a bit, shortly after G was born, we set up an appointment with First Steps. "First Steps is Missouri’s Early Intervention system for infants and toddlers, birth to age 3, who have delayed development or diagnosed conditions that are associated with developmental disabilities. Families play an integral role in their child’s development. The First Steps system provides families the tools they need to help their child be successful." Almost immediately, OT began.
Mrs. Christy - our PT instructor! Rockin' the exercise ball. :)
Then PT was soon to follow and most recently, Speech Therapy.
That's Miss Nina (OT) with the pink & Mrs. Christy (PT) in the purple. This is what was called the 'dreaded stairs'. This is hard work people! G used to cry just after a few steps, but now, he can do all of them! Don't get me wrong, he isn't smiling the entire time, but he IS doing it & we are SO very proud of him!
Check out those strong arms! Go Graham! :)
Currently, G does OT 1/week, PT 1/week, Speech about 1+/month & Nutritionist (as needed). We have been very blessed by some very good therapists. Our OT, Nina, is also our 'main' contact at First Steps and she is simply amazing. She loves our son & it shows. So we continue, let me re-phrase here. GRAHAM continues to work hard extra every single day (along with the help of his wonderful Grandma who comes over everyday!) building up his muscles (most children with DS have very low muscle tone) all the while learning how to do new things and push towards the next milestones.
He's our little blessing.
